METIS network

Institutional partners

Overview

The METIS network is a collaboration between three European cultural history research centres based in France, Italy and Switzerland, namely the Centre d’Histoire Culturelle des Sociétés Contemporaines (CHCSC) at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, the Centro Interuniversitario di Storia Culturale (CSC) at the Università degli Studi di Padova and the Centre des Sciences Historiques de la Culture (SHC) at the Université de Lausanne. These interdisciplinary centres of expertise offer both taught and research programmes in the field of cultural history. While each centre has its own particular vision, the research conducted within the METIS network is defined by three specific research areas.

The METIS network aims to promote a reflection on the circulation of knowledge, cultural transfers, exchanges and networks in the European and Atlantic (Europe-Americas) spaces from a transnational perspective. Its three specific research areas are: the study of theatrical apparatuses from an intermedial perspective, whether specific heritage objects (such as exhibitions) or particular fields (such as audiovisual techniques); the textual, scenic and media dimensions of theatre history; and the exchanges and interrelationships between language studies and the visual arts (including illustrated publishing, landscape theory and history, and comics).

METIS’s long-term aim is to become a showcase for European cultural history research through it activities, publications and research projects.
